Having a baby changes everything, especially whenever it comes to your body. I remember looking in the mirror before our little one even arrived. The stretch marks, aches and pains invisible to the eyes, swollen ankles and nausea had me at a loss. I glanced over at my husband and said, “I don’t even know my body anymore.”
Perhaps I was just an overly tired, over emotional pregnant woman in that moment. But deep down in my heart I realized that I wasn’t the only woman who struggled with body issues and changes that come with being pregnant and giving birth.
One of the most awkward changes a woman experiences is leakage, and I’m not talking about the breast in this case. Admit it. Once you’ve had a baby, laughing, sneezing and jogging can bring about a surprise flow of bodily fluid.
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to take a VProud class that discussed the pelvic floor in great detail. Educating myself on why this occurs and how to regain control was so empowering. All too often, we women leave our medical issues up to chance. Missy Lavender really opened my eyes and heart whenever she said, “While these issues may be common; it’s not normal.”
VProud encourages and empowers us to take our health into our own hands. I love being able to take in all of this medical/health information in the privacy of my own home. Once the kids fell asleep, I was able to curl up on the coach and watch each chapter of the class. And there’s no time limit! It feels so good to know that this class is my valuable resource that I can tap into at any time.
Now I am equipped with the knowledge and some special exercises that can help me regain control of my pelvic floor. I’m ready to go out for a jog and laugh the entire time!
